INCOMING! ONSLAUGHT OF SORRY-ASS EXCUSES!

I'm sorry for the long period of silence, but it couldn't be helped. And I'm sad to say, I will be going on another hiatus.

*Cue sob story* These past few months, my mother and I hit some hard times, what with my hours being cut for about 2 months and her getting no overtime. It's gotten so bad that we've fallen behind on our bills.

And now, we find out that our house is set for foreclosure at the end of next month if we don't pay up. After multiple talks with my mom, we've decided to have all the utilities cut off, move out of house, and work on getting caught up on paying the mortgage up to date and paying off her car note. If we go through with this, and granted we can follow through with our plan, it won't be until May/June till we can move back into our home. Utilities being cut off means I won't have the internet anymore. So that means no updates (not that I've been doing that anyways...)

So, I'm gonna take this opportunity to be hella productive, finishing all my existing pictures & projects, drawing up a shit-load of other stuff, crafting up a lot of jewelry and whatever else.

I'm sorry for not making updates for the past few weeks, and I'm sorry this had to happen. It's a sucky situation, we'll just have to keep praying and put our faith in God in that he will see us through this.

So, here are some earrings I have been making lately. With the sole exceptiong of Sundrop, all the other earrings had bases that were bought at a craft store. The ones I'm really proud of are Shimmering Light, Emerald deco, Sundrop and Ice Crystal (the last two being my absolute favorites. I'll eventually make necklaces for all of these.

Skipping all of my various excuses, here's the update for last week:

The Original

Altered Version

I call this mermaid a Northern Auroral Mermaid. She came into inspiration after the Arabian Gold-fin Mermaid. I can't really say what inspired her. All I know is that I wanted to do a really flowy-type of mermaid, and I wanted her to resemble the Aurora/Northern Lights.

There are two versions of this mermaid-the Original ver. and the Altered ver.-which you can see in a bigger size on my deviant art page. With the Original ver., I feel I wasn't thinking quite right as far as choosing colors. What was supposed to be a cool and soft colored mermaid became a pastel technicolor mermaid. And while I do like it, it's not what I wanted. So that's where the second version comes in-the colors on the arm-fins and back fin were changed and the water background was darkened a bit. All technicalities aside, I think both came out fairly well.

Sorry for missing last weeks update, for family issues and lack of materials had prevented me from doing as such. But enough with my usual excuses-here is the update for last week:

Old World Charm

Jade-Emerald was pure hell to make, with making all the little loops for the quad-part of the necklace. Plus, I couldn't find the right chain for the necklace, so I had to stick to the one shown. Despite hating making it, I am pleased with the results.

Old World Charm was slightly easier to make, as no jewelry wire was needed-just elastic string. With it's cream and gold color scheme and Pearl-esque beads, I tried to emulate olden-style Pearl necklaces, which were beautiful and simplistic.

I think I'll go back to drawing for next week, though.

Ha! Take that, midnight updates!

My job has been cutting hours a lot lately, and sending people home when they get too close to having 40 hrs. And that has been the case with me. Having this new found time to laze around and recuperate, I decided to get the update drawn early and ready for submission:

I quite enjoy making these fish/mermaid creatures! I always thought that mermaids in general were too boring looking. I mean, there's so much you can do with them besides making the human half look beautiful and embellishing the tail. That's why my mermaids look more fish-like and don't have that many human characteristics.

I was inspired by listening to the song "Arabian Coffee" from the Fantasia (1940 version) soundtrack. I want to draw a few more to match the beautiful white & black fish from that segment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GuxYSHxb_U&feature=related . There, I dub this an Arabian Gold-Fin Mermaid.

Media used: Copic Markers, Gold Gel Pen, .005 Micron Inking Pen, and Photoshop CS2 for clean-up.

Jewelry Update 002

Hahaha, I'm suck at updating on time! I had been working on finishing up some jewelry all day Saturday, and because my copy of CS2 sucks so bad that it almost froze my computer it isn't until this morning that I'm finally getting to uploading it. But enough of that, here's the update:

It's a huge file, so I apologize if it kills someone's computer. I know Photoshop froze on me several times while compiling the photos.

To make up for the lateness these past few weeks, I decided to upload nearly all of the jewelry I had made. Rather than making updates as I go along, like I said I was going to do with the necklaces, I decided to combine them both, so that you can see the whole matching set of jewelry.

From left to right, starting from the top row:

I think the hardest ones to complete were Stellar Orbit, Tribal Beat, Apples n' Grapes, and Steel Moon, the first being the toughest. But I'm happy with how they came out.

Sorry, didn't get home till 9 last night. But enough excuses, here's the update:

This character, Arcadia P. (which is what I'll call her until I think of a proper name), loves seashells. Princess though she may be, she'd take a shell over a jewel any day. When she can manage it, Arcadia will send out her sentries and have them collect as many as possible. She'll then pick out the most beautiful ones and squirrel them away from her nosy servants.

I must say, I love how this came out, even though I pretty much botched up the anatomy for the arms and hands. I especially love how the water came out too.

Jewelry Update 001

Whoops!

So sorry! I had last week's update all ready and waiting to be uploaded, but I completely forgot to!
So, here it is:

During my hiatus, I had begun to get more serious about making jewelry. I figured I could make my own and not have to pay $3-$10 for the ones you see in the store. I buy beads at the craft stores (just because I don't have the time, energy, or money to invest in getting equipment to make my own.) With the exception of the last 3, half of them were already ready made-I just had to put the beads in them. I'm not that great at framing and molding wire just yet, but I think I'll get better as time goes along.

Next weeks update will be necklaces!

Hey! I'm back, after my long hiatus. I basically used that time to A.) Give myself a break and B.) Work on other projects, which I will be uploading photos of here in the next few weeks.

For right now though, here's something for you:

This was drawn and colored on Bristol Paper. I had been hearing other artists online talk it about it, so I snagged some and lo and behold, I now love them! Super smooth surface that allows me to blend easily, and paper that doesn't bleed all the way through.

This was just a simple experimentation, and I like the end result of it! This was inspired by some pic's I found online of African tribes in which the women are topless.

So, now that am done rambling, I'm off to bed! I'll try to have something for this Saturday, that way I can resume my regular updates for the end of the week.

Hiatus 01

And just when I though it couldn't get any worse, I've been struck with the ol' Art Block syndrome, smack dab in the middle of working on my series. And here lately, I've barely been keeping up with the updates.

So, until I finish this series, and build up enough art to make up for all the crappy updates I've been making, this blog is going on Hiatus, at least till the 20th of September. It sucks, I know, I'm very sorry folks, but until I can get myself out of this funk, I can't really draw anything productive right now.

Art Update 038

So, as of right now, I've resumed work on my series. I want to post it all at once, and I'm only halfway through, so until I finish it, here is an old but favorite work from 2007:

This was inspired by a dream of mine from long ago. I ascending a flight of stairs, and when I reached the top there was a door. Past the door was a glass ceiling "attic" of sorts. There were all sorts of lounge chairs and in the opposite direction were rows of bookshelves with water running in between them. As I walked thru the shelves, I grabbed some of the books to read, and to my surprise, then books began to fly all over the place.
It was a very nice dream, and one that I remember clearly, even to this day.

I had made this as part of an assignment called "My Dream" during Photoshop class in High School. Back then I was just starting to use Photoshop, so my drawing, coloring, and shading skills were so craptasticly bad (not that I've grown that much better since then...)

Art Update 037

So, in breaking of my tradition of updating a few minutes before midnight, here is the upload for this week:

2 bust shots of Nyte and Pearleena, leering at one another as normal. Nyte is content to just leave Pearl alone and leave it like that, but because of certain things that have happened in the past, the same does not hold true for Pearleena. She never misses a chance to antagonize Nyte, much to the latter's dismay.

I know that Pearl's head looks bigger than Nyte's, but her face and chin are more pointed, and her hair is poofier, verses Nyte, who has a wider face and rounded chin, and whose hair is flat and straight. The golden thing around Nyte's neck is a crown, and is just apart of the many gold themed jewelry she wears.

This was more or less of a challenge for me to color, since I am still trying to find a shading style that I like (that, and I can't shade metal-like things to save my life!) I mean, I like this one because of how smooth it looks altogether, but it's a little time consuming when you making each shade color lighter or darker than the next. Anyone got any better shading ideas?

This is a simple Prismacolor pencil drawing of Sakura. Being in the midst of all sorts of complicated art in the works, I felt the desire to do something simplistic for once. And then I realized that I haven't drawn Sakura for a while now. So here you are. I didn't do a whole lot of editing in this piece aside from some lightening and the gradient. There really isn't a whole lot I can do to this without ruining it, so I opted to leave it alone, which in the end worked, I think.

Sorry about the late update. This took longer than anticipated:

This is another character that will be in my story Aidia. I wanted to do a flower-themed long leg character for a while now, and after drawing Alta Nimbus and Pearleena, I came up with her theme. Her name is Blue Moon, a Flora Elemental, and she's the mother of Havannah. I've got two or more elementals that I will draw, and after this, I'll be done with them.

Although I love how it came out, it'll be a long while before I do another digitally colored picture of her. Doing those transparent petals almost killed me. I'm still struggling to find a painting/shading style that I like. Right now I'm doing a kind of layer-shading, but that is time consuming, and it makes the shading look choppy.

Anyways, this is the update for last week, so I'll try to make sure I update for this week on Saturday as usual.

I had actually got this done earlier in the week, but decided to hold off and post it today:

I'm really loving making these types of characters.

This pretty lady's name is Pearleena, and she is an Oceanid, water Elemental. And because she is a water Elemental, this has given her a superiority complex over others, and is overall a snooty person, much to the chargin of Nyte.

The one in the center is the original one I colored. To the left is a simple flat color version, and to the right is a lightened version of the centered one. I'm really happy with how this came out.

Craft Update 002

Here's something else to bide the time:

So here it is, my long-awaited, pain-in-the-ass-to-finish Steampunk-ish Clock. And I say Steampunk-ish because even though it sort of resembles something from that genre, it's nowhere near as detailed as it needs to be, as far as showing more mechanical working in it.

However messy it is (you can't really tell because of the slight blurriness of the photo), I'm very happy with how it came out. I used a few small real metal gears as well as a lot of Sculpey Clay to make the gears, the roses and figure, as well as the 'metal' plates on the clock part. In the gear section, I painted more gears along a black background to give the impression of lots of gears "at work." I glued metallic strips along the edge, and put a thin plastic cover over where the gears are to give it the impression of having glass over it. With the exception of the screws on the clock part, everything else was superglued down.

Sorry, photoshop was being so stupid I had to stop using it for a couple of days and I had to lend the camera to my sister.

So, while I'm still configuring the cosplay update, here's something else for the time being:

So, this is the same character, whom I decided to name Nyte, from a couple of art updates back., this time with a tiny companion, Havannah.

I really like the concept of characters like them, in the sense that they are both (literally) all legs-it really makes them easy to draw!
I'm thinking of making a few more and incorporating them in my oldest story (that's still in the works), Aidia.

Fashion/Costume Update 001

I used the above mentioned title because this really isn't so much of an Art update, in the sense that this is more photography than Art. The fashion pictures have already been uploaded here in their own updates, so I won't count those.

And, as promised I have put together a montage of my Masquerade Ball Dress-all the concept designs, photos of the dress itself, and all the little details of it. This was a PAIN to get together, just because my version of Photoshop is old and retarded so it freezes a lot.

In lieu of all my A-kon cosplay shopping, I almost forget the update!

It's nothing special, just an earlier update in color. It's the possible designs for my Masquerade Ball dress. The site hasn't made a defined theme, so these are just prototypes for now. If there is no theme, then my dress will be star themed, in Cosmic Girl Fashion. When I go to make the dress, I'll post the final designs. Since I will have to try on the dress while it's in the making, I'll try to have some photo's up of it, as well as my updated Okami Cosplay and my Tess Cosplay.

Because A-kon is 19 days away, and as I will be working on my Ball gown, updates for the next 2 weeks may or may not happen. Also, there will be no update for the last week of the month. The next week, however, will have 2 or more updates.

So here's the update for this week:

After so many dark-color pictures, it feels refreshing to do a light colored picture. Also feels good to get back to using watercolors again, as I do need to give my copiccs and prismacolors a rest. I'm especially pleased with how the water came out.

I have a very strange attraction with waterscapes. I just love the concept of shallow plain of water that is all encompassing, with white puffy clouds amid a light blue sky-those are the only backgrounds I don't mind doing.

With all these dark pictures I'm making lately, I'm killing my black markers. Despite that, I quite like how this came out. I seem to be drawn to one-point perspective doorway pictures lately. The only complaint I have about it is that the figure is off center And I kind of messed up the lighting on her face. I had to darken it a bit in Photoshop, since my scanner likes the butcher the color quality of my pictures. Other than that, I'm quite satisfied. I had fun making the white border.

Again, more designs for the possible Masquerade Ball at A-kon-now in color! I know I won't have a lot of time to sew it, so I keep the designs simple, yet elegant. I'm assuming this to be a freestyle ball, not one that is set in a certain time era. If it is, fuck it, I don't have time to make a dress that is set in Victorian, Elizabethan, etc. style.

Ha, I managed to not put off this week's update. Just barely though.

Sorry about the glare. I used my sister's new camera and can't figure out how to get the flash setting off.

It's been a long time since I've last painted on a canvas, so please excuse it's sloppiness. It's a bit tricky, being so rusty in all, but I'll get back used to it-I bought a crap load of canvases and plan to get back into painting again.

Seeing as how this is based off a dream of mine, it should be obvious that the figure in the painting is me. Albeit the real me is more anatomically correct. I'll keep working on that more...I've been drawing animals for a while so when it came back down to humans it was like "Well, this is more difficult."

I'm still working on the clock...all the sculpting is complete. Just need to do some woodworking, painting and put it together. In the meantime I think I'll make next week's update either a painting or a drawing.

Update for this week.

This is a...'spin-off' from an art piece I did while I was high school. The originale had more, but it is current in pieces as I plan to reconstruct the entire thing. And if and when I do get to that, I will upload it here.

At some point, I will try to make more of an effort and give some commentary on the art that I update.

I will try my hardest to update with a picture every week. It'd be good if I could set up a mon-wed-fri schedule, but that will be when I can diligently commit myself to doing so. Until then, I'll try to stick to a once a week update. This week will be the exception.

~Bonjour, mon amies~

So, I deleted all of my other blogs. Why?
Because I realized that it was pointless having all of them when I don't have much information to put on them. They were just sitting around collecting e-dust, so I decided to go and get rid of them until I have all my stuff ready.
Also, because of this Orphaned Art thing going around too-it doesn't just apply to artwork, it applies to any form of media anyone creates. I know it's silly of me to worry about it, but I'd rather not have my stuff taken when it's in its infantile stages. I'll put it back up when everything is finished and in order. And properly marked and copyrighted so that there's no chance thieves can take it and claim they couldn't contact me.

This blog will still be a art/update blog, and I've decided to put some artwork/info from my other stories too-to keep things fresh and diverse.

Thats all I've got to say, so....off to draw more.

I think it looks good with flat colors instead of cell shading or blending.

It's finally cold outside.
I love it when it's cold, because it feels more like the holidays are coming.
